Ohto Conception Mechanical Pencil (0.5 mm)

This ingenious mechanical pencil features two modes: drafting pencil mode and lead guard mode.

In drafting pencil mode, it has a fixed 4 mm guide pipe that makes using templates and straight edges easy while also allowing an unobstructed view of where the pencil tip meets the page. To activate drafting pencil mode, twist the grip section clockwise as far as it will go.

In lead guard mode, the guide pipe becomes a sliding sleeve that retracts with the lead as you write, reinforcing the lead and allowing you to write for extended periods without having to extend the lead beyond the edge of the guide pipe. The edges of the guide pipe are rounded to minimize scratching. To activate lead guard mode, twist the grip counterclockwise as far as it will go.

The Conception also lets you configure how far the lead extends with each click, from 0.2 mm to 2.0 mm. To do so, twist the knurled ring just above the clip and below the push button. Four circular windows in the barrel change color to indicate the current setting.
